| A welcome trip to last year's intended venue, a splendid pub tucked away in the dark streets of Bermondsey, that most sinister quarter. The downstairs bar glistened with bottles of rare whiskey, and the splendours of the upstairs - a sort of Victorian dining room - for once matched the venerable dignity of our great club. We'd found a kindred spirit in our barman, a veteran of wandering club cricket. The gents contained what appeared to be the hunting trophy collection of a minor Maharajah, including an antelope with a three foot neck.
